Queensland is beautiful. We love shooting outdoors, but why do we ask a travel fee? Ahh the age-old question that haunts clients; if I’m already paying $$$ for a supplier, why do I have to pay a travel fee?

The easiest way to explain this is to compare it to a standard, 9-5 job in an office. When you accept a job at an office, you’re offered $X amount per hour for the time you spend there. You aren’t entitled to travel allowances unless your job requires you to do so. As professional photographers, we can’t say we love charging people travel fees – but without them we’d really struggle to make some shoots worth our time. Travel fees not only help pay for the costs associated with actually traveling such as car repairs, gas, toll fees and so on. It also covers the time we spend on the road, same as if we were being paid an hourly rate. We cannot book shoots or do editing when on the road, and if we do not ask a basic travel fee, it will hardly be worth our time to do outdoor shoots.

Why do we charge a call out fee for in-home newborn sessions? A basic explanation - the extra time we spend to set up our mini studio and cart all the props around. Our travel fee covers the time spent travelling as well as costs associated with travelling.

Our travel fee is a lot cheaper than the standard taxi and Uber rates as we work on an average of 80c per km. Travel is calculated from our standard place of work which is located in New Beith, 4124.

A bit of a walk and a climb, but so worth it. Lovely forest scenery with a tropical waterfall.
